Trying to Find Someone – Staff Daughter – Pauline XXX

We’ve had a request from Julia Bates as follows:

I am trying to locate the daughter of an instructor that was at Portsea in 1954. I only have her first name, Pauline. She lived in Queensland in the 80’s. I’m not sure when she was born, between 1954-1958??
Very vague, I’m sorry.
Thanks in advance
Julia

Visit by Malaysian Chief of Army February 2020

We recently received the following information from Parks Victoria via the Rye RSL (John Wilson).

L-R General Meor, MAJGEN Gerard Fogarty (Rtd), General Hasbullah

I thought you may be interested to know that on 21 February, Parks Victoria hosted a very brief visit by a group of international and national military dignitaries on a tour through the Quarantine Station.  The visit was one of nostalgia primarily, and notably included the Malaysian Chief of Army, General Hasbullah and Major General Gerard Fogarty (Rtd) who both graduated from the Portsea Officer Cadet School in 1981, and Brigadier General Meor who graduated a year later.    Since graduating, General Hasbullah and Major General Fogarty (Rtd) have remained close friends, and shared many memories and amusing stories as we wandered through the site.  Their friendship is a testament to the enduring significance this site holds for those who trained here during the school’s 34 year occupation.  We informed the group of the Portsea OCS Alumni’s proposal to reinstate the OCS memorial with the statue and honour  roll next to the Parade Ground and Badcoe Hall.  They were all very pleased to hear this, and mentioned they have seen to the original memorial at Duntroon in the preceding days as part of their international relations tour of Australia.

December 1984 – 35 Year lunch – 14 December

In celebration of the upcoming 35 year anniversary of the OCS graduating class of December 84, I’ve organised a booking for lunch at the Portsea Hotel from 1130 on Saturday 14 December for as many cadets, staff and family members as are willing/able to attend. This year the celebration will be informal with dress casual; partners, children, grandchildren and other family members welcome; come and go as it suits; a-la-carte dining and most importantly, enjoyment of good company.

To help with the administration, I’d be grateful if you could get back to me (ian.peek2@defence.gov.au) by Friday 8 November with a best estimate of whether you can attend or not; and if you can, roughly the numbers of adults and children etc. That’ll be all I need until Friday 29 November when I will need to let the Hotel know more accurate numbers.

…….extend the invitation to the MIAs if you have any contact with them at all. Our list of Staff contacts in particular is extremely sparse, and I’m sure we’d all like to see as many of those former DS of all ranks who helped not only launch or boost our military careers, but who also helped shape the men we’ve became over the period since graduation.

Thanks and best wishes to all of you until we meet again.

Please contact class members for more details and to book.
